North Texas man charged with possession of child sexual abuse material
Michael Jeffrey Anderson, a 40-year-old man from Runaway Bay, was arrested on July 1 and faces a charge of possession or promotion of child pornography.
According to a press release by the Texas Department of Public Safety, special agents from the Criminal Investigations Division served a search warrant at a residence in Runaway Bay in connection with an ongoing investigation of alleged downloading of child sexual abuse material.
Anderson also faces a charge of possession, promotion, or production of certain visual material depicting a child, which is a state jail felony.
During the search, agents found and seized multiple electronic devices and during the initial forensic examination of the devices, the agents discovered several files showing child sexual abuse material, the release stated.
Officials said this is still an open investigation and anyone with information related to this case or with knowledge of any crime should come forward and contact the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The public can report suspicious behaviors via the iWatchTexas app or by calling 1-844-643-2251. A report usually takes less than five minutes, and all reports are confidential (providing contact information, which is optional, allows follow-up questions), the release reads.
DPS was assisted by the Wise County Sheriff’s Office, the Dallas Police Department and the Runaway Bay Police Department.
