North Texas man sentenced to federal prison for committing three armed robberies
A man from Denton has been sentenced to 78 months in federal prison after committing three armed robberies, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas.
Jonathan Mark Fleming, 41, pleaded guilty to bank robbery on June 29, and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Richard Schell.
According to information presented in court, Fleming committed three armed robberies of banks in Denton between November 2022 and February 2023.
While committing the robberies Fleming drew a gun, and wore all black covering his face with a ski mask and goggles, and his hands with gloves, authorities said. For the first two robberies he drove a red Dodge Challenger, and for the third robbery he drove a Dodge Ram TRX truck, according to the press release.
Investigators on the case were able to track the Dodge Ram to the dealership and learned that Fleming purchased it in cash and traded in the Dodge Challenger.
The press release said that on Feb. 23, after Fleming had been identified as a suspect, police were able to get a search warrant for his apartment.
Fleming was the sole resident of the apartment and was arrested during the search. In his apartment officers found black and gray clothing Fleming wore during the robberies as well as a black duffel bag, a gun belt with a holster, a large sum of cash still wrapped in bank currency bands, and multiple guns.
Among the firearms was a black M&P Smith and Wesson handgun in a holster that investigators believe to have been used in his robbery on Nov. 10, 2022; a new Glock handgun with the receipt; and two AR-15 style rifles, according to the press release.
They also found two deposit receipts with sums ranging from $19,000 to $40,000 into multiple bank accounts, and two police radio scanners.
The press release says in total Fleming stole about $450,000 in cash.
The investigation included the Denton Police Department, Lewisville Police Department; Flower Mound Police Department and the FBI.
