A 19-year-old fatally shot a fellow passenger in a parked car early Saturday morning in Grand Prairie, police said.

Police responded to a report of a shooting in a car parked in front of a house in the 500 block of MacArthur Boulevard. Witnesses said that the suspect, Alexander Chavez, was sitting in the back seat of the car “when he recklessly handled a firearm and discharged it,” striking the person in the driver’s seat.

Chavez, 19, ran from the scene, but was later apprehended.

Chavez has been charged with manslaughter, a second-degree felony.
