Parker County man faces murder charge after killing his daughter, sheriff says
A North Texas father faces a murder charge after he shot and killed his daughter inside their home on Sunday, according to a news release from the Parker County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about a gunshot victim at a residence near Azle in northeast Parker County. Upon arrival, deputies immediately provided medical aid for the victim, who died at the scene, the release stated.
Sgt. Shane Cartwright, public information officer for the Parker County Sheriff’s Office, said that it was clear very quickly that the victim’s father, Charles Brooks, was responsible for the gunshot wound.
Cartwright said statements from those involved explained that the victim and her mother were involved in a physical altercation. Charles Brooks admitted to retrieving and loading a handgun and chambering a round before trying to separate the two women, the news release stated.
According to Brooks’ account of the shooting, he was trying to separate the two women when the gun went off and shot the victim in the chest, investigators said.
Brooks was arrested and transported to the Parker County Jail. His bail is set at $2 million.
Texas Rangers are assisting the Parker County Sheriff’s Office in the ongoing investigation.
