Southlake police stopped an in-progress forgery at a bank after staff notified them about suspicious activity, officials said in a Facebook post.

Keith Gilbert, 60, was detained and later arrested after police say he tried to withdraw $8,000 from the bank using fake information, according to the post. Further investigation found that Gilbert had already attempted to withdraw $12,000 from another bank earlier in the day.

Police also uncovered information related to more than 27 potential victims, some of them elderly, as well as other fraud-related materials and narcotics, over the course of their investigation, officials said.

Gilbert had active warrants from around North Texas and two other states on a range of offenses including fraud, identity theft, possession of narcotics and other crimes, police said.

In the Southlake case, he faces charges of fraudulent use or possession of identifying information and possession of a controlled substance.
