Weatherford business owner accused of fraud arrested on more charges
A Weatherford man facing several fraud and theft charges related to his construction business was arrested Tuesday on additional charges.
Parker County investigators obtained on March 26 five felony warrants for Dustin Whitley, the owner of 760 Homes & Construction LLC.
Whitley turned himself in on March 30. He was booked into the county jail the same day and charged with seven felonies, including theft of service between $2,500 and $30,000, misapplication of construction funds totaling $500 or more and theft of property between $2,500 and $30,000. His total bond recommendation was put at $90,000.
Authorities say additional customers came forward in the following months, leading to three additional felony charges filed Tuesday. Whitley was arrested while attending his court hearing, according to the sheriff’s office. The offenses occurred between Jan. 17 and April 7, according to court records. His bond is set at $45,000.
State business records indicate Whitley created his business in 2024.
Sheriff Russ Authier said at the time that at least one family who hired Whitley to build a home in north Parker County had accused him of fraud and theft.
A “lengthy investigation” found that Whitley allegedly made withdrawals totaling over $52,800 from the account of a customer he was building a home for to purchase building materials he never bought. The investigation also found Whitley allegedly used several customers’ money for personal purchases and failed to pay at least four contractors for services totaling nearly $42,500, according to the sheriff’s office.
After Whitley’s initial arrest, continued investigations based on testimony from customers and contractors led investigators on April 7 to find Whitley allegedly owed a subcontractor over $63,000, according to the sheriff’s office.
Whitley allegedly paid the subcontractor with a stolen tractor, which the subcontractor did not know was stolen, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators learned the following day that Whitley allegedly used over $85,500 paid to him by a customer in East Parker County for personal purchases and failed to pay several subcontractors, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office is urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
