Arlington police officer arrested on sexual assault allegation, officials say
An Arlington police officer was arrested Friday, May 8, after being accused of sexually assaulting a woman he’d met during a call for service, department officials said in a news release.
On April 18, someone came forward to report the “inappropriate sexual contact,” the release states. Officer Derreck Dean, 36, was placed on administrative leave, and the department opened up a criminal and administrative investigation into his actions.
Detectives learned that Dean responded to a call for service at the woman’s home on April 11. He returned three more times without being called between April 17 and the early morning hours of April 18, police said. The alleged sexual contact occurred during one of those visits.
Dean was on duty during all three of the extra visits and covered his body-worn camera each time, the release states. He’s currently being held in the Tarrant County Jail on a $10,000 bond, according to court records.
The suspect has been charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of official oppression. He remains on leave, pending the outcome of the administrative investigation, police said. Dean has served with the Arlington Police Department since 2016.
“The department takes this matter extremely seriously and is currently looking into whether any other instances of misconduct may have occurred,” the release states.
