Officer-involved shooting at apartments near Tanger Outlets in far north Fort Worth
CORRECTION: A previous version of this story incorrectly reported that Lake Worth police were involved in the shooting.
Fort Worth police were on the scene of an officer-involved shooting that occurred late Tuesday morning at an apartment complex in the 3600 block of Outlet Boulevard, near Tanger Outlets mall and Texas Motor Speedway on the city’s far north side.
The Fort Worth Police Department was not the agency involved in the shooting but was on the scene to assist, the department said.
Officials have not said which agency was involved in the shooting. Fort Worth police referred questions to the Texas Department of Public Safety, whose Texas Rangers division is investigating.
“The situation is under investigation,” Fort Worth police said in a social media post. “There is no ongoing threat to the public.”
Residents say complex has been safe
“We were sitting on my patio, which is very close to where this is all happening, and we heard nothing the whole morning. And we were up on the patio, had the door open, had the windows open,” said Terra Johnson, a resident at the 35 West at Champions Circle Apartments complex.
Johnson, who has lived in her apartment for a few years, said seeing so many police officers and crime-scene tape was “pretty alarming.” She added that the neighborhood has felt safe.
Doron Williams was working from home when his wife, Kinsey, was walking their dog and saw more than 20 police cars at the complex. The couple said they did not hear gunshots but were confused about what had happened.
They have lived there for a year, like the management and feel safe, the couple said.
