Juvenile dead after wrong-way crash in stolen car in McKinney

One juvenile is dead and another is hospitalized after a wrong-way crash and a police pursuit in McKinney early Saturday morning.

The Collin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash, which occurred at about 4 a.m. Saturday after deputies tried to stop a driver suspected of driving while intoxicated after it nearly struck a patrol vehicle.

The driver fled, and deputies followed. During the pursuit, the driver was speeding and traveling the wrong way on the road, according to the Collin County Sheriff’s Office.

The car crashed near Virginia and Independence parkways in McKinney, where it caught fire, authorities said. The driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The passenger was pronounced dead.

Investigators later learned that the car had been stolen from a business in McKinney.

The McKinney Police Department and McKinney Fire Department responded to the crash, and the McKinney Police Department is conducting the crash investigation, authorities said.
