Former Northwest ISD teacher federally charged in child pornography investigation
A former Northwest ISD teacher has been federally charged with child pornography crimes, U.S. attorneys in East Texas said in a statement Friday.
Kyle Lee Roy Francis, 24, is charged with receipt and possession of child pornography, according to the statement.
Francis previously worked as an art teacher at Lance Thompson Elementary School from August 2024 until January 2026, Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV reported. School district officials indicated that a background check performed at the time of his hiring found no previous charges or concerns.
In a letter to parents Thursday, the school’s principal said the charges do not involve any Northwest ISD students, according to WFAA.
District officials were notified in January that Francis was being federally investigated. At that point, they requested and received his resignation, and reported the investigation to the Texas Education Agency and Child Protective Services.
A forensic analysis of Francis’ school-issued computer and digital activity found no inappropriate content, according to WFAA.
If convicted, Francis faces up to 20 years in federal prison.
