Youth baseball coach arrested in North Texas child sexual abuse case
Keene police arrested a youth baseball coach last week after they investigated allegations of child sexual abuse.
Brandon Wade Vanscoy, 31, who lives Johnson County, was identified as the suspect, police said in a news release. A warrant was obtained for his arrest on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child.
Vanscoy was being held Tuesday in the Johnson County Jail with bond set at $750,000.
Vanscoy coached baseball as a volunteer for the Burleson Youth Association. He was removed from that role as soon as the organization was informed of his arrest, according to a statement on BYA’s social media.
“On March 26, 2026, we learned that a volunteer had been arrested by the Keene Police Department and charged with a serious criminal offense involving a minor,” Burleson Youth Association officials wrote. “In accordance with our policies and requirements, we immediately removed the volunteer from all BYA activities, and he is no longer affiliated with BYA in any capacity.”
The investigation began when detectives with the Keene Police Department Criminal Investigations Division were called to the Johnson County Children’s Advocacy Center to take a report of sexual abuse. The report was made to police by the child’s parent.
Investigators determined the alleged abuse occurred on or about March 22 in Keene, police said. Trained professionals conducted a forensic interview with the child at the advocacy center.
Investigators have not said whether Vanscoy coached the child or how he knew the child.
“Due to the sensitive nature of this case, and in accordance with Texas law protecting the identity of juvenile victims, no identifying information about the victim will be released,” police said.
Vanscoy had passed a background check in January, according to the Burleson Youth Association.
“The safety and well-being of every child in our program is our highest priority, and we are cooperating fully with law enforcement as their investigation proceeds,” the association said.
