UNT police investigating reported sexual assault in campus dorm
University of North Texas police are looking for the man who sexually assaulted a student inside a residence hall on March 12, the agency said in a crime alert Friday.
The victim met the suspect through a dating app or other social media platform. Police said the man sometimes hangs around the Music Building and pretends to be a student. He’s thought to be an Indian male, about 5-foot-9 and between 25 and 27 years of age.
The attack occurred inside a residence at Joe Greene Hall, according to the alert.
“The UNT Police Department is investigating this incident and may already have sufficient information to identify the suspect,” the agency said in the alert.
Police urge students to remain aware of their surroundings and call 911 to report any suspicious or dangerous activity.
“Social Media Apps, including dating apps, have been used to perpetuate crimes and scams,” the alert reads. “Be cautious of unknown parties while using these apps and attempt to arrange meetings in a safe public place.”
A survivor advocate is available for UNT students who’ve been a victim of violence or other form of trauma.
