Suspect arrested after five Fort Worth armed robberies that netted $19,000
A 21-year-old man accused of stealing nearly $19,000 during a series of armed robberies across Fort Worth is now in custody, according to police.
Kevin Ortiz left the state and was arrested March 12 by FBI agents in Connecticut, Fort Worth police said on Thursday on social media.
The robberies took place between Feb. 7 and Feb. 19. Ortiz would show up in a car without license plates and use a gun to threaten employees, according to police and court documents.
He’s accused of robbing convenience stores located at 1211 W. Seminary Drive, 2401 W. Seminary Drive, 3206 Deen Road, 1066 Forest Park Blvd. and 4036 W. Vickery Blvd.
“Fortunately for detectives, Ortiz wore distinct clothing and would utilize a specific item to leave the door propped open to ensure the doors would not lock him inside the business he would rob,” police said.
Officers in the Real Time Crime Center gathered information on Ortiz that showed he would leave the city or state after the robberies. He was tracked to Connecticut, where Fort Worth police arranged to have him arrested.
Police said they found multiple items linking Ortiz to the robberies when they executed a search warrant at his Fort Worth residence. It’s not clear if Ortiz has hired an attorney to represent him.
