A Tarrant County man is accused of posing as a licensed attorney to scam inmates held in the county jail and their families out of thousands of dollars, officials said.

Ramond Davis Jr., 60, was arrested and multiple charges are pending against him in the alleged scheme, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.

Davis is accused of contacting people incarcerated at the jail and offering them legal services, then arranging to meet with the inmates’ families to collect payments of $3,000 in exchange for the services, the release states.

Investigators determined Davis is not a licensed attorney and they believe there may have been additional victims, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Davis was booked at the Tarrant County Jail on March 7 and released on bond, according to online records. His defense attorney declined to comment Wednesday.

The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging people who may have been contacted by Davis or victimized similarly to contact investigators T. Johnson or V. Espino-Nevarez by calling 817-884-1400.
