A 67-year-old Granbury man who pointed a shotgun toward a woman walking in a nearby park Friday evening was shot and killed by two deputies from the Hood County Sheriff’s Office, officials said.

Don Marlow sent a direct message to the Granbury Police Department on Friday morning via Facebook, “threatening violence toward law enforcement officers,” the department said in a news release. Police then found more posts from Marlow encouraging others “to shoot law enforcement.”

Police obtained a warrant for Marlow’s arrest on a charge of terroristic threat about 10 a.m., according to the release. Officers from the Granbury Police Department and Hood County Sheriff’s Office set up surveillance near the suspect’s house on East Bridge Street.

Negotiators, along with one of Marlow’s relatives, tried to contact the suspect for several hours without success. They finally reached him through social media and asked him to come outside and turn himself in, the release states.

Shortly before 6:30 p.m., Marlow appeared on his balcony with a long-barreled shotgun. He was waving the weapon around and walking in and out of his house, according to the release. He also appeared to have some type of pistol in a chest holster.

About 6:40 p.m., Marlow pointed his shotgun at a woman walking in the park across the street, officials said in the release. Two deputies fired their weapons, striking the suspect. He died a short time later at Lake Granbury Medical Center.

The Texas Municipal Police Association and Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas confirmed on social media that no officers were injured. Attorneys from both organizations responded to assist the deputies.

The Texas Rangers will lead the ongoing investigation into the shooting, officials said.
