A Dallas SWAT officer fatally shot an armed man while executing a narcotics search warrant Friday morning, police said.

The Dallas Police Department’s SWAT team arrived at the house, located in the 1000 block of Shaw Street near Canada Drive, shortly after 10 a.m. As they approached, the suspect opened the front door and pointed his gun at one of the officers, according to police.

“This gun was pointed directly at the officer’s head,” Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said during a news conference Friday afternoon.

The SWAT officer fired his duty weapon, striking the suspect. Officers immediately rendered aid to the wounded man, but he died at the scene, according to police.

Officials haven’t publicly identified the suspect. No officers were injured during the incident, police said.

Comeaux said the department plans to release body-camera video footage of the incident. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office also responded to the scene and will conduct a separate investigation, police said.

The Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas union posted about the shooting on social media and said one of their attorneys responded to help the officer who was involved.
