Mom of Fort Worth killing victim: ‘I just wish he would’ve gave him the fries.’
Jarvis Davis was sitting on the couch in a west Fort Worth apartment last week, digging into a meal from Wing Stop as his girlfriend lay in his lap.
Also eating in the room were children, another woman and a man who was enjoying wings but remained hungry. He asked Davis to share his french fries, according to Sherika Kennedy, Davis’ mother. The women who were present recounted to Kennedy the argument that followed.
Davis, who was 19, declined to share his fries and did not take seriously the requestor’s resulting anger. Soon after, Davis’ friend fired a bullet into Davis’ head.
“He didn’t think he was going to get shot, especially over french fries that [were] his,” Kennedy said in an interview with the Star-Telegram.
Davis grew up in Shreveport-Bossier City, Louisiana. He moved with his relatives to Texas in 2020, settling in Lewisville. He had been in Fort Worth for a year.
Davis, who played football in high school, could antagonize, his mother said. He was tough and unwilling to back down in a fight.
“He had a mean left hook,” she said.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office reported that Davis died early Thursday in the Harris Methodist Hospital trauma ICU about seven hours after he was shot. The apartment where the shooting occurred is near the 9500 block of Jeremiah Drive.
Davis’ parents and seven siblings are grieving. He was his mother’s fourth child.
“He was only 19, with his whole future ahead of him,” Kennedy wrote in a GoFundMe post. “He was a loving son, a protective brother, and a fun-loving uncle to his three nieces. He brought laughter, energy, and love to those around him, and his absence has left a deep void in our hearts.”

The suspect left the apartment after the shooting before the police arrived.
Detectives successfully sought an arrest warrant for the suspect, who lives in the same apartment complex.
Police have not announced the suspect’s arrest and have not released his name.
“I just wish he would’ve gave him the fries,” Kennedy said.
