A suspected drunk driver died following a police chase on Interstate 30 in Grand Prairie on Tuesday night, police said.

A Grand Prairie police officer spotted the suspected intoxicated driver in a Chevy SUV on eastbound I-30 near Belt Line Road about 11:30 p.m., police said in a news release.

The officer tried to stop the driver, who did not yield and continued driving eastbound, entering the express lane of I-30, police said.

Police said the driver was unable to stay in the traffic lane and hit the barrier wall, causing the SUV to crash in the eastbound express lane near North Cockrell Hill Road in Dallas.

The driver, who was the sole occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the collision, police said.

Investigators found multiple containers of alcohol inside the SUV, police said.

The person who died will be identified by the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office after the next of kin are notified.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
