A man was shot dead near Lake Como on New Year’s Eve, officials with the Fort Worth Police Department said.

Officers responded to reports of a man shot in the 3400 block of Lake Como Drive at 6:12 p.m. Wednesday, according to online call records and a media release.

When police arrived, they located the shooting victim on a walking bridge with wounds to his torso. Medical responders attended to the man at the scene, but he was pronounced deceased, according to the release.

The suspect is a woman who had previously dated the man, the release said. There was reportedly a verbal and physical altercation between the two while they were walking on the bridge. The media release said the woman asked witnesses to call 911 prior to the shooting, alleging the man had assaulted her.

Officers detained the woman, who was taken to a hospital due to injuries she sustained during the altercation.

The woman’s name has not been released and police have not said whether she will face charges. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the deceased once next of kin have been notified.
