A suspect was shot and killed by Lake Worth police officers after a chase Friday night, according to a news release.

Officers tried to stop the suspect’s car in the 6000 block of Lake Worth Boulevard at 6:56 p.m., police said in the statement.

In the process, officers learned the driver, 56-year-old Jerry Scott Gee, had violated the terms of his probation and had an active warrant on a charge of solicitation of prostitution, officials said.

The driver fled before he could be arrested and led officers on a “slow-speed pursuit,” police said.

During the chase, Gee severely damaged his vehicle, causing it to become disabled behind a Walmart at 6360 Lake Worth Blvd., according to the statement.

The suspect got out of the car, assumed a “shooting stance,” and aimed “what appeared to be a weapon” at officers, police said.

Officers shot the suspect and began to provide first aid, according to the statement. Gee died at the scene.

No officers were injured during the incident.

The Texas Rangers and the Lake Worth Police Department will conduct separate investigations into the shooting, officials said. The Rangers’ investigation will focus on potential criminal conduct by the officers. The Lake Worth investigation will focus on department policy.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact the Lake Worth Police Department at LWCID@lakeworthtx.org or by calling (817) 237-1224.
