Bison shot and beheaded in North Texas. $3,000 reward offered to find poacher
The Texas Bison Association and law enforcement are asking for the public’s help to find whoever is responsible for shooting and beheading a female bison on property near Lindsay, officials said.
The bison was shot and killed on a family’s ranch near County Road 301 and FM 3108, south of Lindsay, between Sunday Nov. 23 and Wednesday Nov. 26, according to the Cooke County Sheriff’s Office.
The female bison had a bullet hole entry and exit wound through her lungs and a silver RFID tag in her right ear, the Texas Bison Association said in a social media post. Whoever killed the animal cut off her head and left her carcass behind.
Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to contact the property owners, Shawn and Christy Neu, at 940-902-9742 or the Cooke County Sheriff’s Department at 940-665-3471. Those wishing to remain anonymous may submit tips via email at tips@co.cooke.tx.us
A $3,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of those responsible, the Cooke County Sheriff’s Office said.
Once identified, the suspected poacher could face a third-degree felony charge of cruelty to a non-livestock animal.
