Perhaps three spirits visited the ornament bandit and guided her toward redemption.

But unlike Ebenezer Scrooge, the thief who stole an enormous sphere off of the Sundance Square Christmas tree in downtown Fort Worth was not thoroughly moved. She did not return the tree decoration herself.

After three days away, though, the ornament is back.

A man arrived about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday to a sidewalk around Sundance Square Plaza and handed the ornament to a passerby. The man asked that it be returned to a security guard, according to a Sundance Square Instagram post. It was rehung.

The thief’s identify remains unknown.

The woman is seen on a surveillance camera recording removing the ornament from the tree in downtown Fort Worth at 12:46 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 23, Sundance Square officials said.

She then ran off with the ornament and left in a dark gray Audi four-door sedan, the video shows.

The ornament is new for the 2025 season and was designed by artist Arely Morales, according to the post.

“Our city has a holiday spirit bigger and brighter than anything we can hang on a branch,” the Instagram post said. “Folks looked out for our artists, shared the story, and showed the kind of neighborly care that makes our city so special.”
