A 61-year-old suspected drunk driver is in the hospital Wednesday after crashing his truck during an early morning police chase in North Richland Hills, officials said.

Officers responded to reports of a wrong-way driver near Chisholm Trail and Reatta Court about 1:30 a.m., the North Richland Hills Police Department said in a news release. When they tried to stop the driver, he headed north on Rufe Snow Drive at a high rate of speed.

The pursuit lasted about three minutes, according to the release. The suspect hit a power pole and flipped his truck at a location just south of Bursey Road.

The 61-year-old driver had to be extricated from his vehicle, police said. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.

The driver faces charges of driving while intoxicated, evading arrest, and a warrant from Pardon and Parole, according to the release.

Rufe Snow Drive was closed for about an hour-and-a-half due to the downed power pole but has since reopened.
