Pit bull’s owner faces felony after violent attack at Tarrant County park
A 45-year-old woman who was wanted by Lake Worth police after her pit bull allegedly attacked and seriously injured someone at a dog park Oct. 8 has been arrested.
Autumn Billing was taken into custody around 3 a.m. Wednesday, Lake Worth police said in a Facebook post. She faces a felony charge of attack by dog causing serious bodily injury.
Billings’ boyfriend, 51-year-old Rhimmain Little, was arrested at the same time for hindering the apprehension of a known felon, police said.
“I realize these arrests will not heal any physical wounds, but I pray it brings a sense of relief and closure for the victim and her family,” Police Chief J.T. Manoushagian said in the post.
A 47-year-old woman called 911 on the night of Oct. 8 to say she was being attacked by a brown pit bull at Keenum-Shelton Dog Park, 3217 Dakota Trail in Lake Worth.
Police officers who responded to the call encountered Billings and her pit bull at the park but didn’t realize the dog was the one involved in the attack. The victim could be heard screaming, police said, and they immediately went to help her. When officers returned to the area where they’d seen Billings, she was gone.
The victim’s son, Crystian Pate, told Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV that his mother sustained a damaged artery, a broken forearm and dislocated fingers in the attack. She’s been released from the hospital but is still traumatized by what happened to her.
“She fell,” Pate said. “She was trying to protect her face. It’s a terrible feeling. Nobody wants to see anybody looking like that or have that happen.”
Lake Worth police issued an arrest warrant for Billings and asked for the public’s help locating her. Billings’ boyfriend voluntarily surrendered the pit bull to police and animal control on Sunday. He said at the time he didn’t know anything about Billings’ whereabouts, according to police.
