Homicide detectives are investigating a shooting that left a 31-year-old man dead late Tuesday afternoon after a drug deal went wrong in south Fort Worth, police said. A suspect in the case was arrested on Wednesday.

Officers responded to the Super 7 motel in the 4400 block of South Freeway shortly before 5 p.m. They found a man inside a motel room with a gunshot wound to his abdomen, according to police.

The man died at the scene, police said. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as Ontario Rodriquez Williams.

Investigators discovered that the man was involved in a drug deal earlier in the day. The other person wasn’t happy with the transaction and returned to confront him with a gun, police said.

The suspect ran away from the scene after the shooting, police said. According to jail records, 29-year-old Jaquan Branch, was arrested on Wednesday. He faces charges of murder, assault on a peace officer and resisting arrest. Branch was being held Friday in the Tarrant County Jail with bond set at more than $800,000.
