Man fatally shot outside east Fort Worth restaurant; teenage brother arrested
Police are investigating a shooting that killed a man parked outside an east Fort Worth restaurant Thursday night.
A 17-year-old suspect was arrested and faces a murder charge in the case. A juvenile suspect also was taken into custody.
Officers responded to the shooting at Louisiana Famous Fried Chicken and Seafood, located at 6150 Ramey Ave., shortly before 10 p.m. They found a man who’d been shot multiple times inside his vehicle, according to police.
Surveillance video from the scene shows an SUV drive up beside the victim’s pickup truck. In the video, two people jump out of the SUV and fire multiple shots into the truck.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 36-year-old Kevin Hernandez and said he died from multiple gunshot wounds.
The 17-year-old suspect, Giovany Hernandez Tafoya, was booked into the city jail on Friday morning. A family member told Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV that the victim and one of the suspects are half-brothers. The suspects were reportedly arrested after SWAT officers were called to a house near the shooting scene.
Detectives from the Homicide Unit are investigating the motive and what led to the fatal shooting. It was one of two homicide cases police investigated overnight. Early Friday morning, a customer was fatally shot while trying to prevent a robbery at the Yellow Rose Saloon on Cherry Lane, in west Fort Worth.
