Ghislaine Maxwell transferred to minimum-security federal prison in Texas
Jeffrey Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence for sexually abusing minors, has been transferred to a federal prison in Texas, officials said.
Maxwell was previously incarcerated in Tallahassee, Florida. Bureau of Prisons spokesperson Donald Murphy confirmed Maxwell’s transfer in a statement to CNN on Friday.
“Ghislaine Maxwell is in the custody of the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) at the Federal Prison Camp (FPC) Bryan in Bryan, Texas,” the statement reads.
Maxwell was sentenced in June 2022 for her role in helping Epstein recruit, groom and sexually abuse underage girls. Officials have said some of the victims were as young as 14.
FPC Bryan is a minimum-security facility, according to the BOP website. It is located in Brazos County and is about 100 miles northwest of Houston.
Maxwell’s transfer to Bryan comes days after she was interviewed by U.S. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche as part of the investigation into the Jeffrey Epstein case.
Although Epstein died in prison in 2019, apparently by suicide, numerous conspiracy theories have grown around the case. Public interest around who his clients were has continued to increase.
The Department of Justice and FBI announced June 6 that they hadn’t found any evidence that would lead them to investigate other individuals.
“This systematic review revealed no incriminating ‘client list,’” the agencies said in a joint news release. “There was also no credible evidence found that Epstein blackmailed prominent individuals as part of his actions. We did not uncover evidence that could predicate an investigation against uncharged third parties.”
Maxwell continues to maintain her innocence and has appealed her conviction to the U.S. Supreme Court.
