A 33-year-old man was stabbed at a south Fort Worth apartment complex early Thursday while trying to protect a woman from her ex-boyfriend, police said.

Officers responded to Funky Town Food Mart, at 4800 Wichita St., at about 3:15 a.m. after getting a call about a stabbing victim. A woman was visiting her ex-boyfriend at an apartment complex in the area when the two got into an argument, police said they were told. The woman called another man — the victim — to give her a ride.

The ex-boyfriend tried to force the woman into a car, police said, and he stabbed the other man when he tried to intervene. The assault took place at the Amelia Parc apartments at 6100 E. Loop 820 S., according to the police report.

The woman and injured man drove to the nearby convenience store to get help. They were followed by the suspect, but he left after someone called 911, police said.

The injured man was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive, according to police. The suspect hadn’t been arrested as of Thursday afternoon.
