Lewisville police officers shot and killed an armed woman on Thursday morning after she fled from a traffic stop and caused a car crash, the police department said.

Police officers in Lewisville fatally shot a woman who held a handgun as they tried early Thursday to arrest her, the police department said.

A Lewisville officer about midnight conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by a person for whom a felony arrest warrant had been filed.

The driver, identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as 43-year-old Joanna Rogers, sped from the traffic stop, police said. She was alone.

Police chased Rogers through multiple jurisdictions in North Texas. During the pursuit, Rogers caused a collision with a Lewisville Police Department patrol vehicle and continued to flee, police said. The officer involved in the collision was not injured.

The chase ended in a commercial parking lot in the 2200 block of the southbound Interstate 35 East service road in Lewisville.

Rogers had a handgun and did not comply with the officers’ commands to drop the weapon, police said. Officers shot her.

Officers began lifesaving measures. Rogers was taken to a hospital, where she was about 1 a.m. pronounced dead.
