Woman arrested in shooting death of cookie store owner at The Shops at Redbird
The owner of a Dallas business, Cookies n Smoothies, was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon inside The Shops at RedBird, and a suspect has been arrested.
Dallas police officers responded to a call about the shooting in the 3600 block of W. Camp Wisdom Road about 3:50 p.m. Dallas Fire-Rescue medics also responded, but the victim died at the scene, police said in a news release.
The 53-year-old victim was identified as Jaime Rokkett, according to the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The suspect was identified as 43-year-old Rashonda Lowe, according to Dallas police. Lowe turned herself in to Arlington police and was taken into custody by Dallas officers. She faces a murder charge and was booked in the Dallas County Jail, police said.
The suspect and the victim knew each other, and Rokkett had a restraining order against Lowe, investigators told Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV.
The two reportedly got into an argument before the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the cookie store owner, sources told WFAA.
U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett commented about the shooting in a post on X, writing, “Devastated to learn about the shooting at The Shops at RedBird — right here in our community. My heart is with the loved ones of the victim, and I’m grateful to law enforcement for acting quickly.”
In a statement, officials with The Shops at RedBird said, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred today at The Shops at RedBird. Our thoughts are with everyone affected during this incredibly difficult time.”
“This was an isolated, targeted event involving individuals known to each other and not a random act of violence,” the statement said. “It could have happened anywhere. We are fully cooperating with local law enforcement as they conduct their investigation and support their efforts to bring clarity and justice to this tragic occurrence.
“The safety of our shoppers, employees, and tenants is always our highest priority. The Shops at RedBird has a comprehensive security program in place, including 24/7 patrols, surveillance systems, and a strong partnership with local police. We will be reviewing all aspects of this incident closely and taking any additional steps necessary to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.”
The investigation is ongoing.
