A 24-year-old man was slain inside an Arlington apartment during a robbery Thursday as the victim and suspect exchanged gunfire, police said.

The victim was shot about 1 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 1600 block of Nandina Drive, Arlington police said.

Witnesses saw another man leave the apartment where the shooting occurred and enter a different apartment nearby, police said.

That man, Kamari Marzittie, had been shot in the leg, police said. A detective believes that the homicide victim was also armed and likely exchanged gunfire with Marzittie.

Marzittie, 25, was taken to a hospital, treated and cleared by medical staff.

Police booked Marzittie on suspicion of capital murder. He initially gave officers a false name, police said, and was arrested on on suspicion of failure to identify and on outstanding warrants filed in Dallas County.

The homicide victim, who was pronounced dead at a hospital, was identified in a police report as Lamar Wright.
