Man indicted on murder in Hurst robbery-killing accepts prosecutors’ plea offer
One of two men who were indicted in connection with a January 2023 killing in Hurst pleaded guilty on Wednesday to murder.
In a plea agreement with the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office, Anthony McDowell was sentenced in Criminal District Court No. 3 to 21 years in prison. McDowell is 19.
Edward Zachariah was shot during a robbery near his apartment in the 500 block of East Pecan Street, the district attorney’s office alleged. Zachariah was 22.
Hurst police did not release other information about the Jan. 29, 2023, homicide.
Also in a plea agreement with the district attorney’s office, codefendant Kaylen Atkins on March 21 pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 23 years in prison.
Had McDowell and Atkins been found guilty at trial, their range of punishment would have been five to 99 years, or life, in prison.
