A former Granbury City Council candidate and prominent Hood County Republican Party member stands accused of falsifying documents when she filed to run for office last year.

Eva Renate Royer, 55, was arrested in Granbury on April 7 and booked on charges of election fraud and perjury in connection with certain electoral procedures.

According to the perjury complaint, in July 2024, Royer completed a voter registration form using an address in Granbury despite living in Pecan Plantation, a master-planned community just outside the Granbury city limits. The election fraud complaint states that a month later, when Royer filed to run for City Council, she listed the same Granbury address as her permanent residence. At the same time, she claimed to have lived in the city for “2 years 9 months.”

Texas law requires at least six months of residency in a city before someone can run for a council seat.

A subsequent investigation showed that Royer was not a permanent resident at the Granbury home, and that it was used as a short-term rental property.

In addition to being a registered Republican, Royer is the chairwoman of the events and fundraising committee for the Hood County Republican Party. A phone call to local party officials was not returned. Likewise, Royer herself did not respond to a request for comment.

Perjury in connection with certain electoral procedures is a felony charge in Texas, meaning Royer could serve jail time if found guilty.
