‘Lucky to be alive:’ DoorDash driver attacked by man he offered to buy food for
A North Texas DoorDash driver says he’s grateful to be alive after being attacked and having his car stolen outside a south Fort Worth Waffle House early Saturday, March 29.
Jackson Oltmanns said in a social media post that he’d just finished his last order for the day and stopped by Waffle House for a bite to eat. A man knocked on his car window and asked for money.
Oltmanns told him he didn’t have any cash, but the man said all he wanted was something to eat. But when Oltmanns got out of his car to get him some food, the man started stabbing him and carjacked him, he said.
“I was lucky to be alive,” Oltmanns wrote in the post. “He tried stabbing me at least 10 times. Luckily, I was able to somewhat defend myself.”
Fort Worth police said they responded to a cutting call at the Waffle House in the 200 block of W. Rendon Crowley Road shortly before 3 a.m. The suspect cut the victim’s face and stole his vehicle, according to the police report.
Medical personnel treated Oltmanns at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Oltmanns also received injuries to his chest, according to his post. He’s started a GoFundMe to help cover the cost of things he’s still dealing with from the incident.
The suspect was arrested near a strip club in the 2400 block of Meacham Boulevard, according to police. According to Tarrant County court records, 24-year-old Quindarius Cartwright was arrested in the case on suspicion of aggravated robbery. He’s being held in the Tarrant County Jail on $150,000 bond.
“I never thought something like this would’ve happened to me,” Oltmanns said in his post. “I always try and give everyone the benefit of the doubt and show kindness. That night, it almost cost me my life.”
