A murder suspect who stabbed a 28-year-old Dallas man over 55 times while helping the victim move apartments was arrested this week, police said.

A murder suspect who stabbed a 28-year-old Dallas man more than 55 times after helping the victim move apartments was arrested on Tuesday, March 25, police said.

Ethan Isaiah Rodriguez, 23, was arrested in connection to the killing of Raymond Davis. Rodriguez faces charges of capital murder, evading arrest in a motor vehicle and possession of marijuana, police said.

Dallas police responded to a call for service in the 800 block of W. 7th St. about 8:50 p.m. on Sunday, March 23. When officers arrived, they found Davis lying on the ground.

Dallas Fire-Rescue medics also responded to the scene and determined Davis had died, police said.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV, surveillance video shows Rodriguez and Davis entering an apartment together. Rodriguez was helping Davis to move out, investigators said.

After stabbing Davis to death, Rodriguez was seen leaving in Davis’ red 2011 Honda Accord about midnight, and the car was later reported stolen, the affidavit states.

The person who reported the car stolen called police to do a welfare check after Davis failed to answer phone calls and missed work. When police showed up to Davis’ home, they found him dead with more than 55 stab wounds, according to the affidavit.

Dallas patrol officers found the stolen Honda Accord and tried to stop it, police said. Rodriguez sped away, hitting multiple cars before he crashed and started running, the arrest warrant stated. Officers used a Taser on Rodriguez during the arrest.

Rodriguez was identified by a witness who confirmed he was the last person seen with Davis before his death. According to the arrest warrant, Rodriguez was wearing shoes with a pattern that matched a shoe print found in blood at the crime scene.

He is being held at the Dallas County Jail with bond set at $1,025,000.
