Arlington man sentenced to life in prison for 2022 murder of long-term girlfriend
An Arlington man was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday in the 2022 murder of his long-term girlfriend, Tarrant County District Attorney Phil Sorrells said.
Forty-six-year-old Jose Luis Moreno Castaneda was found guilty of killing Evila Yanes and leaving her body face down in a parking lot near the 4400 block of North Cooper Street, Sorrells said.
Castaneda had a prior arrest for domestic violence against Yanes, resulting from an incident where he doused her in gasoline, the Star-Telegram previously reported.
Yanes. and Castaneda were seen on surveillance footage arguing hours before Yanes’ body was found in October of 2022, officials said.
Yanes was 44 years old.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner ruled Yanes died as a result of blunt-force trauma to the head.
Yanes was “a sweet, loving, caring, beautiful single mother who left behind 5 kids along with 2 grandchildren,” her family wrote on a GoFundMe created shortly after her death.
