Dallas Mavericks assistant coach arrested, accused of threatening to shoot woman
An assistant coach for the Dallas Mavericks, Darrell Armstrong, was arrested Saturday, Feb. 15 after he allegedly assaulted a woman, Dallas police said.
Officers responded to a call in the 1000 block of Ross Avenue at about 3:45 a.m., police said.
Armstrong, 56, and the victim were in an argument when he hit the woman with a gun and threatened to shoot her, police said.
Police believe that Armstrong and the victim know each other. Dallas Fire Rescue responded and treated the victim at the scene, police said.
Armstrong was booked in jail around 7:30 a.m. on Saturday and will face a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to jail records. He posted a bond set at $35,000.
“The Dallas Mavericks are aware of an incident involving a member of our staff and are gathering all relevant information surrounding the incident,” a Dallas Mavericks spokesperson said in a statement on Sunday.
“We take this matter seriously,”the spokesperson said.
Armstrong has been placed on administrative suspension pending the outcome of legal proceedings, the spokesperson said.
Armstrong has been working as an assistant coach with the Mavericks since 2008. He played 14 seasons in the NBA, including in Dallas, Orlando, New Orleans, Indiana and New Jersey before he began his coaching career.
