When officers arrived, they found the dead man on the third-floor landing of an apartment building, police said.

Detectives said the man had broken into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and confronted the ex-girlfriend and another man as they were about to enter the apartment.

The man who was with the woman pulled out a handgun and fired multiple shots at the intruder, shooting him at least once, police said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as 37-year-old Michael James Andree.

Police said no arrests have been made and the shooter is cooperating with the homicide investigation.

The shooting was the ninth homicide in the city this year, which compares with three homicides during the same period in 2024, according to Fort Worth police.
