A driver who had a Molotov cocktail in his vehicle was arrested during a traffic stop in Azle last week, according to the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office.

A sheriff’s deputy made the stop in the 900 block of Northwest Parkway about 2:15 p.m. on Jan. 24, the office said in a new release on Thursday.

The deputy found the driver’s behavior suspicious and searched the vehicle, authorities said.

After the deputy found the weapon, the Tarrant County Fire Marshal’s Office, Fort Worth Fire Department Bomb Squad, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were called to the scene.

The suspect, 27-year-old Murphy Walls, faces a charge of possession of a prohibited weapon. He remained in the Tarrant County Jail on Thursday, Jan. 30, with bond set at $5,000.

“This arrest was the result of excellent police work and attention to detail on the part of the deputy,” Sheriff Bill Waybourn said in the release. “His investigative instincts led to the arrest of someone who could have potentially caused great harm.”
