Escaped Alabama inmate’s car spotted at North Texas Buc-ee’s. An arrest followed
An escaped inmate from Alabama made an ill-advised stop at a North Texas Buc-ee’s on Sunday, where the suspect’s car was spotted.
It wasn’t long before the inmate and an accomplice were arrested in Melissa, about an hour northeast of Fort Worth, police said in a news release.
Using flock camera technology, Melissa police were alerted by authorities in nearby Anna about the escaped inmate being in the area around 1:47 p.m. on Jan. 26.
Officers located the vehicle in the parking lot of Buc-ee’s in Melissa before it proceeded northbound on the U.S. 75 frontage road where officers initiated a traffic stop, the release states.
The inmate from Alabama surrendered without incident.
The driver of the vehicle was also taken into custody after officers discovered there was an active felony warrant for aiding in the inmate’s escape, the release states.
“This successful apprehension highlights the importance of inter agency communication and the dedication of our officers to keeping Melissa safe,” Melissa police Chief Erik Stokes said in the release.
The two individuals were transported to the Collin County Jail and are awaiting extradition to Alabama.
