Fort Worth police are investigating what happened to a woman found dead on a freeway on Friday morning, possibly hit by a car.

Around 8:18 a.m., officers responded to 11651 West Freeway near Linkcrest Drive in far west Fort Worth after a passerby confirmed they had seen the body of a person on the side of the highway, police said.

When officers arrived, they found the woman’s body with signs of vehicular trauma.

Police said the traffic investigation unit shut down the eastbound lanes until further notice.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the woman.
