An off-duty Fort Worth police officer was arrested in Grand Prairie on Sunday, Dec. 15, and faces a charge of driving while intoxicated, officials said.

Officer Willie Nash has been stripped of all police powers and placed on restricted duty during the ongoing investigation, Fort Worth police said in a Tuesday, Dec. 17, news release.

He faces a criminal investigation by the Grand Prairie Police Department and an administrative investigation by the Fort Worth Police Department Internal Affairs Unit.

Mark Beseda, a spokesperson for the Grand Prairie Police Department, said officers responded to two separate calls about a possible intoxicated driver around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. The driver was seen on Interstate 20, but later exited north on State Highway 161.

Grand Prairie police located the suspected drunken driver in the 2900 block of the Texas 161 service road and initiated a stop for a traffic infraction, Beseda said. The driver was identified as Nash. He was arrested at that time on suspicion of DWI.

The results of a blood alcohol test are pending, according to Beseda.

Nash has been with the Fort Worth Police Department for 18 years. He was working in the Patrol Bureau at the time of his arrest, according to the release.
