Students and staff at Texas Wesleyan University were given the all-clear after more than 90 minutes of sheltering in place on Tuesday afternoon while police responded to a report of an armed person on campus.

The report was a false alarm, Fort Worth police said after investigating the incident, and there was no gun involved in the incident.

Fort Worth police responded to a report of a person with a weapon on campus at 2:17 p.m. Shortly after, the university told students and faculty to shelter in place.

The lockdown remained in effect until 3:48 p.m. Tuesday. The shelter-in-place was a “precautionary measure” after the campus security team received a report of a “suspicious individual, potentially with a gun,” on campus, according to a Facebook post from Texas Wesleyan University.

Police detained and questioned a woman identified as a person of interest, but no gun was located. No arrests were made, said department spokesperson Officer Jimmy Pollozani.

The university posted on Facebook at 3:48 p.m. that the shelter in place had been lifted.

This is a developing story.
