A Fort Worth man has been arrested on a murder charge after he shot a man on Tuesday night, the Grand Prairie Police Department said in a statement Wednesday.

According to the statement, the man, identified as 20-year old Zahrek Patton, had been involved in an altercation with the victim prior to shooting him.

Patton and the victim knew each other prior to the altercation, detectives said, but they did not specify how the two men knew each other or what the fight was about.

Police responded to the shooting about 8:45 p.m. in the 400 block of East Palace Parkway.

The victim, who has not been publicly identified, was transported to a hospital, where he later died of his injuries, police said. He will be identified by the Dallas County medical examiner.

Patton is being held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1 million bond, police said.
