Man fatally shot during fight in south Fort Worth; suspect detained, police say

A man was fatally shot during a fight Tuesday morning in south Fort Worth, police said.

Officers responded to an apartment in the 2900 block of South Riverside Drive, in the Morningside neighborhood, shortly before 9 a.m. regarding a shooting call. They found a man with an apparent gunshot wound to his mid-section, according to police.

Detectives learned that the suspect and victim had gotten into a fight, and the suspect shot the victim, police said.

The injured man was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital but did not survive. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as Anthony Dewitt Young, 63, of Fort Worth.

The suspect was detained at the scene, police said. The homicide remains under investigation.
