Assault suspect arrested following standoff with North Richland Hills police

Police were in a standoff with a suspect in North Richland Hills on Davis Boulevard on Saturday. The standoff ended when officers fired several rounds of gas through the front windshield of the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody.

Authorities are investigating a standoff involving an assault suspect on Saturday, according to North Richland Hills police.

Around 12 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a call about a family disturbance in the 7900 block of Harwood Road, where a suspect was reported to be actively assaulting the victim, police said.

When officers arrived at the scene, the suspect fled in a vehicle at which point officers attempted to make a traffic stop, according to police.

The vehicle fled, but was quickly disabled after hitting a police vehicle, police said.

The driver of the vehicle refused to exit and given the suspect’s aggressive behavior, the North Richland Hills SWAT team responded to the standoff in the 5000 block of David Boulevard, police said.

A photographer at the scene saw officers fire several rounds of gas canisters into the suspect’s vehicle.

Ultimately the suspect was safely removed from the vehicle and taken into custody, according to police.

The case remains under investigation.

Authorities have not released the condition of the victim or if the suspect will be facing charges. The suspect’s identity was not released by police.
