Saginaw police arrested an 18-year-old man last week in connection to a June shooting that critically injured an Uber driver, according to jail records.

An 18-year-old suspect has been arrested in a shooting that critically injured a North Texas Uber driver in June, Tarrant County jail records show.

Saginaw police arrested James Wallick last week on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing traumatic brain or spine injury that results in irreversible paralysis, and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

The arrest comes about a month after police said the Uber driver was shot in the back of his neck.

According to Saginaw police, officers responded to a call on the evening of June 24 about shots fired in the 200 block of East Bailey-Boswell Road. They found a wrecked Nissan Sentra and a 24-year-old man with a gunshot wound in his neck, police said.

The victim was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in critical condition.

The victim told police he was operating the vehicle as an Uber ride share. He had picked up three men when another vehicle drove up to him and the occupants of that car started firing at the Sentra, according to police.

Authorities found the suspect vehicle abandoned a few blocks away, but no arrests were made at that time.

Police said the shooting was an isolated incident and one of the passengers in the Uber was the intended target.

Wallick is being held at the Tarrant County Jail on a $21,500 bond.

Saginaw police have not yet responded to the Star-Telegram’s request for details surrounding the arrest.
