Officers kill man who opened fire on his former girlfriend in Arlington park, police say
Arlington police officers late Sunday shot to death a 42-year-old man at a park in the city when he fired a handgun upon his former girlfriend, the police department said.
As officers arrived at Red Kane Park and were leaving their patrol vehicles, the man fired shots at the woman, Arlington police said. Three officers shot at the man, whom the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified as Shannon Boyd.
Boyd, who lived in Irving, was pronounced dead at a hospital. The woman, who is 40, was in critical condition and alert on Monday morning, police said.
No officers were injured during the encounter about 10:30 p.m., police said.
The officers were dispatched to the park in the 6500 block of South Cooper Street to investigate a reported domestic disturbance between Boyd and the woman.
The officers who fired upon Boyd were, under police department policy, placed on paid administrative leave.
Criminal and administrative investigations of the shooting were launched under standard procedure.
