An employee at a North Texas Wingstop fatally shot his boss and wounded another coworker after an argument inside the restaurant Monday night, police said.

Police identified the suspect as 22-year-old Marc Leon, who was arrested near the scene in Irving shortly after the shooting.

Homicide detectives learned that Leon had argued with one of the victims, a manager who asked him to leave the business, Irving police said. Leon pulled a handgun from his waistband and shot the manager multiple times, killing him, and the second victim was grazed by stray bullets, police said.

Officers responded to the Wingstop at 963 E. Irving Blvd., near Nursery Road, about 7:30 p.m.

One victim died at the scene. The wounded employee was taken to a local hospital, and he is expected to survive.

An arrest warrant affidavit obtained by WFAA-TV identified the manager who died as 19-year-old Christopher Govea. According to the affidavit, Leon shot Govea after the manager tried to send him home.

“A co-worker called my sister to tell her that he was shot,” Christopher’s sister Ruby Govea told KXAS-TV. “Just why? He was a baby. He was 19. He was just starting to live.”

Christopher Govea, 19, was killed in a shooting Monday, June 3, 2024, at the Wingstop restaurant where he worked in Irving.

Christopher was the youngest of seven siblings and a hard worker who financially helped his parents after his father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, Ruby told KXAS.

Leon ran from the fast food restaurant but was found by officers within 10 minutes, police said, and investigators recovered a gun. He faces charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Family members have set up a GoFundMe account for Govea’s funeral expenses.

The investigation is in its early stages, police said. They asked anyone with additional information to contact Detective Burkleo by email at KBurkleo@cityofirving.org or by calling (972) 721-3576. Anonymous tips can be submitted to IPDCrimeTips@cityofirving.org or by calling (972) 273-1010.
