Authorities are investigating a shooting involving an officer who fired their weapon at a car that was speeding on a highway early Thursday, Irving police said in a news release.

At around 1:40 a.m. Thursday, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop near westbound Texas 114 and northbound Spur 482.

The vehicle was traveling at a high speed for a short distance before crashing. While apprehending three people in the vehicle, an officer fired his weapon, according to the release.

One of the occupants — who had a warrant for resisting arrest, search, and transportation — was struck and was taken to a local hospital where they are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police say.

The driver was taken into custody on a charge of evading arrest. The third passenger was questioned by police at the scene and was later released.

The officer was not injured.

Irving police are conducting a criminal and administrative investigation into the shooting while The Dallas County Public Integrity Unit will conduct its own investigation.
